Humoral  Humoral immunity or humoural immunity is the aspect of immunity that is mediated by macromolecules found in extracellular fluids such as secreted antibodies, complement proteins, and certain antimicrobial peptides. Humoral immunity is named so because it involves substances found in the humors, or body fluids.

Humoral immunity is one of two ways that the body seeks to protect itself from illness. Humoral immunity is a means by which the body protects itself from infection by producing antibodies that target foreign material in the bloodstream that is seen as potentially dangerous, marking it for destruction. Humoral immunity is an antibody-mediated response that occurs when foreign material - antigens - are detected in the body. The humoral response (or antibody‐mediated response) involves B cells that recognize antigens or pathogens that are circulating in the lymph or blood (“humor” is a medieval term for body fluid). The response follows this chain of events: Antigens bind to B cells. Interleukins or helper T cells costimulate B cells.

This foreign material typically includes extracellular invaders such as bacteria This mechanism is primarily driven by B cell lymphocytes , a type of immune cell that produces antibodies after the detection of a specific antigen.

Humoral immunity is considered as a part of the adaptive immunity in which B cells release antibodies, which flow in the body’s blood as a soluble protein.

Humoral immunity is named so because it involves substances found in the humors, or body fluids. It contrasts with cell-mediated immunity.

We have revealed that a high serum concentration of anti‐HER2 autoantibody (HER2‐AAb) is associated with favorable outcomes in patients with invasive breast cancer. Humoral immunity is the type of host defense mediated by secreted antibodies that is necessary for protection against extracellular microbes and their toxins. Antibodies prevent infections by blocking microbes from binding to and entering host cells.

Our immune system gives invulnerability and shelter from infectious particles, which is proposed by the host cell existing in the body. Serological assays for SARS-CoV-2 exposures are challenging due to poor positive predictive values. Ripperger et al. show that the combinatorial use of spike receptor binding domain and S2 eliminates almost all false positives. This serological assay is used to show durable antibody production for at least 5–7 months after infection.

In blood samples from COVID-19 convalescent subjects, Ni et al. have detected SARS-CoV-2-specific humoral and cellular immunity. Most subjects display serum neutralizing activities, which correlate with the numbers of virus-specific T cells. Humoral immunity plays a substantial role in the suppression of breast cancer.
